Caramelized Onion & Fig Flatbread
A flatbread that boasts the depth of caramelized onions, the sweetness of figs, and the tanginess of goat cheese. It's an ensemble of complex flavors harmoniously layered over a crisp base.
Ingredients:
For the Flatbread:
1 pre-made flatbread crust
1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Caramelized Onions:
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Salt to taste
For the Toppings:
8-10 fresh figs, sliced
1 cup goat cheese, crumbled
1 tablespoon rosemary, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a sauté pan over medium heat, add olive oil and sliced onions.
Cook the onions until they become translucent and start to brown, stirring occasionally.
Add balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt. Continue cooking until the onions are thoroughly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
Lay the pre-made flatbread crust on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil.
Evenly distribute the caramelized onions over the flatbread.
Place the sliced figs over the onions.
Scatter the crumbled goat cheese and sprinkle the chopped rosemary on top.
Add a dash of salt and pepper to taste.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges of the flatbread are golden and crispy.
Remove from oven, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and then slice and serve.
